Dondakaya Ulli karam instant pot is a quick and easy dish that can be made in less than 20 minutes. The coarsely blended onion, ginger, and garlic paste is a key element in this dish. dondakaya is called as tindora, tonsil, kovvaikkai, kovaykka.
Ingredients
Dondakaya: Dondakaya aka tindora is easily avavilable in indian stores. Always buy firm, long and thin ones. When you cut tindora if it’s in orange color, discard it.
Onion: Ulli means onion which is the key element of this dish. Red or yellow onion works best for this dish.
Ginger and garlic: Adds warm and spicy taste which enhances the flavor.
How to prepare dondakaya ulli karam instant pot
Wash and chop tindora in circles. keep them aside.
Add roughly chopped onion, peeled ginger, garlic, green chili, and turmeric in a blender and make a coarse paste.
On instant pot saute mode, heat the oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, whole urad dal, and dry red chilis, until they splutter and dry red chili changes color.
Add chopped tindora, salt, and thing, and mix all together.
Add the coarse onion paste on top of the tindora. Don’t mix, to avoid a burn sign.
Close the instant pot lid and cook on pressure cook for 5 min, high pressure.
Quick release and serve it with hot rice or roti.
