Brown rice instant pot is the most eaisiest and hassle free way of making it. I personally prefer eating brown rice over white rice because of the fiber it has. Instant pot brown rice is the quickest way of making it with out any close monitering of heat and boiling rice.

This recipe can be done in two ways – with starch or without starch. I personally prefer eating my rice by removing starch which is a traditional way of cooking in India. After removing the startch, rice will be much lighter and digests easily.

Why remove starch from rice

Removing starch from rice can reduce its carbs content. It helps if your watching your calories.

Its decreases tendency to obesity and type 2 diabetes. I had gestational diabetics during my pregnancy, removing starch from rice helped me with good numbers after 2 hr testing.

Removing excess starch yields seperate grains when cooked.

How to remove starch from rice

Rinsing the rice removes the excess starch.

Cook the rice completely and strain out the excess starch water.

How to cook brown rice instant pot

To make instant pot brown rice recipe, you need short grain or long grain brown rice and water (can substitute it with any stock). Today I will be sharing short grain rice (sona masoori rice) recipe.

Add rice to instant pot and cover the rice with water. Using the hand gently swril the rice around until water becomes cloudy. Pour out the water, making sure rice remains in the pot. And repeat until water runs clear, usually it takes 3-4 rinses.

How to cook rice with starch

After rinisng, add water to rice and secure the instant pot lid. Seal the vent.

Pressure cook on high for 20 minutes. Then use quick release.

Open the lid and fluff up the rice with fork or spatula.

After rinsing, add water to instant pot liner and secure the lid. Sael the vent.

Pressure cook on high for 20 minutes. Then use quick release.

Remove the instant pot liner and strain the excess strarch water through a seive.

Serve hot with a dollop of ghee. Ghee has a low glyxemic index which slows down the release of glucose in blood.
