Instant pot yogurt – A yogurt with zero preservatives and no added sugar. Instant pot yogurt is so easy to make and it tastes way better than store brought. Yogurt can be made in a cold start way or by boiling milk prior to adding a starter. Boiling milk adds a lot of creaminess to yogurt.
Why I make yogurt at home
- Homemade yogurt tastes fresh, and creamier.
- It is a lot cheaper than store brought.
- I personally don’t like the flavor and slimy ness of store brought yogurt.
How to make instant pot yogurt (POT IN POT)
- Add water to the instant pot liner and place a trivet over it. Place the milk container over the trivet.
- Hit Yogurt function and adjust until it says boil.
- When the timer is done, remove the lid and cool down the milk. When you dip your index finger in milk, it should feel lukewarm.
- Add yogurt starter to the lukewarm milk and whisk it.
- Place the milk container over the trivet in an instant pot liner and hit the yogurt button. Set the timer to 5 hours. It may take more time if the weather is cold, not more than 8 hours though.
- When the yogurt is set, turn off the instant pot and remove the container. Store the yogurt in the fridge and let it set for 2-3 hours for better consistency.
how long does it last and storing the starter
Yogurt tastes best for the next 3-4 days. After that, it becomes a little tart. Store it in a refrigerator immediately after using in meals
Always save your starter for the next batch.
You can freeze some yogurt starter, for emergencies. Bring the starter to room temperature before adding it to lukewarm milk.
